Powerful, spirited, strong and perceptive, and built to move with purpose.

She is a Thoroughbred Woman.

You are like a Thoroughbred.

You were built for speed.

Those who have taken the time to understand a Thoroughbred horse are rarely disappointed. Thoroughbreds love challenge. They are loyal when understood and accepted. They will give everything they have when they trust the one guiding them.  A talented trainer can develop speed—but never heart.

In much the same way, there is a woman whose strength, intuition, and drive cannot be reduced to ambition or ego. She is powerful, spirited, strong and perceptive, and built to move with purpose. She is a Thoroughbred Woman.

You know this woman.

And eventually, I realized— I am this woman.

This insight gave me my life back.

I came to that understanding in the dark-paneled office of a therapist, after years of infertility and insomnia had left me exhausted and unmoored. As he studied my life—my energy, my leadership, my restlessness, my collapse—he said something simple that changed everything:

You are like a Thoroughbred. You were built for speed.

For the first time, someone named what I had felt but could never articulate. I was not broken. I was not failing. I was living inside expectations that did not fit how I had been made.

He acknowledged that I was, at that moment, a limping horse. But he was equally clear: being exhausted does not erase design. A Thoroughbred does not cease to be a Thoroughbred because they have been overrun, misunderstood, or confined. They must be healed, trained wisely, and given room to run again.

That insight gave me my life back.

A woman of many talents

A Thoroughbred Woman is often a woman of many talents—sometimes all at once. She is capable, energetic, and usually carrying a full plate. When given an assignment that resonates with her calling, she is out of the gate quickly, fully engaged, sometimes before she has counted the cost. Mothers often say, “She came out running.” Others wonder where her energy comes from or how she manages to hold so much at once.

This is not a performance. It is not a need for applause. And it is not recklessness—though this woman must learn restraint if she is to endure. What distinguishes her from other temperaments is not ego, but design. Something within her compels her to move, to contribute, to protect, to build. When focused, she is formidable. When confined, she can become restless, discouraged, or exhausted.

Her heart leans toward justice. She bristles when the vulnerable are ignored. She stands with the wounded and speaks when silence would be easier. Others often find themselves wanting to follow her—not because she demands it, but because her courage awakens courage in them. You want to charge the hill with her.

Scripture has always made room for such women.

In Proverbs, wisdom is personified as a woman who takes her stand at the crossroads, who raises her voice at the city gates, who speaks what is right and true. She is public. She is confident. She is engaged with the life of the community.

She is not hidden away.

When I think of this kind of woman, I think of the many Thoroughbred women in my life—women in different seasons, vocations, and callings, yet unmistakably similar in spirit. Over the years, I asked several of these women how they would describe a Thoroughbred Woman. Their responses were remarkably consistent:
